Facts: Oranges are the largest citrus crop in the world, and their juice is the most popular. They were brought to the New World by Christopher Columbus on his second voyage in 1493 - they've been about for a while! If ripe oranges are left on their trees for too long, their colour may turn from orange back to green! Their taste is not affected - they just look a little strange! After chocolate and vanilla, orange is the world's favourite flavour. And don't forget - they're brimming with vitamin C!
Storage: Best stored in a cool place, or even the fridge.
Preparation and cooking: Rinse the skin before use. Use the skin (zest) in baking, use the segments in fruit salads or desserts, eat straight out of your hand or, of course, juice them.
