Facts: Sharon fruit is the trade name of a variety of persimmon grown in Israel. It is shaped like a tomato with a thin orange skin, a green stalk and orange flesh. It is a ‘non-astringent’ variety of persimmon but still has quite a tannic taste.
Storage: Ripen at room temperature and store refrigerated for a couple of days.
Preparation and cooking: Rinse before eating. Sharon fruit can be eaten while firm, skin, seeds and all. It does not improve with cooking. Sharon fruit is a good standby in a fruit salad, especially with banana and lime juice
