Facts: Native to southern Europe, Dill is a member of the carrot and parsley family. Both the seeds and leaves can be used in cooking, and the plant can also be used to make a green dye. Dill is thought to have a calming effect on the digestive tract, and used to be given to crying babies, which is where its name derives from - "Dilla" means "to lull". It is also reputed to cure hiccups, insomnia, stomach aches and bad breath!
Storage: Best kept in the fridge.
Preparation and cooking: Rinse before use. Dill compliments sour cream, cream cheese, dips, spreads, cottage cheese, meats, eggs and potato salads. It is also particularly good for flavouring fish dishes.
